During the awaited Quantum Meets 2024, held in various locations of the Netherlands between the 11th and the 13th of June, Giacomo Carrara, ecosystem manager at UGent for the BeQCI project, was invited at a panel discussion at one of the side-events, to offer Belgium’s prospective on the current and future development of a European quantum communication infrastructure.
Quantum Meets is a series of quantum-related events organized by Quantum Delta NL, the organization responsible of building a quantum ecosystem in the Netherlands. Highlight of this year was the Q-Expo, a two-day event co-organized by the Quantum Industry Consortium (QuIC), held in Amsterdam on the 11th and 12th of June, featuring a first business expo day and a second day of plenary talks.
During the first day of Q-Expo the side event Quantum Networks: the Future of your Digital Infrastructure with QCINed was held, with an extremely interesting panel discussion with a prospective on the future of the EuroQCI programme. Other than Giacomo Carrara, representing BeQCI, the other panelists were Laurent Olislager, Policy Officer on Quantum Technologies for the European Commission, Ingrid Rmijn, CEO of Q*Bird and Torsten Siebert, Projects & Partnerships responsible in the European Research Area for Fraunhofer.
The panel discussion was a great occasion to share different views on the current status of the member states’ projects and, more importantly, the future steps to build a full European quantum communication infrastructure. We thank Quantum Delta NL for the invitation and for offering the BeQCI consortium, represented by Giacomo Carrara, the possibility of giving its unique prospective on the future of quantum communication in Europe.
