Quantum day at the CyberWal in Galaxia Winter School 2024

The BeQCI project is proud to be one of the supporters and co-organizers of the CyberWal in Galaxia Winter School 2024, following and replicating the success of 2023’s edition. This week-long event aims at addressing the main challenges in cybersecurity, bringing together different communities and international experts.

In particular, BeQCI was involved, through the project partners UCLouvain and Multitel, in the organization of the second day (03/12/2024), dedicated to the threat of quantum computers to cybersecurity and the main solutions for such threat, Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) in particular.

Highlight of day was the enlightening talk by Prof. Gilles Brassard, professor at Montreal University and one of the inventors, together with Prof. Charles Bennet, of the seminal BB84 protocol, the very first and one of the most famous quantum cryptographic protocols.

Others speakers brought an overview on the EuroQCI initiative, by sharing the progress in deployment and research in different National QCI projects: Prof. Stefano Pironio (ULB) represented BeQCI, while Dr. Seid Koudia (University of Luxembourg) and Prof. Eleni Diamanti (Sorbonne University) represented Luxembourg’s and France’s QCIs, respectively.

Given the location of the event, the ESEC Center in Redu, run by the European Space Agency, some attention was given to the latest developments in European projects concerning QKD in space. In particular, Thierry Draus (SES) and Patrick Renaux (Starion) gave an overview of the Eagle-1 and INTUQKD projects, respectively.

We are amazed to have had the chance to support this amazing event, which brought together more than 200 people and contributed to spread knowledge about quantum cryptography in different communities! Looking forward for next year’s event!
